What does a deep tissue massage do?

i got a deep tissue massage on my calf and was wondering what it was for and also what does it do also ive been doing lots of exercises that stretch the muscles in my legsWhat does a deep tissue massage do?
As the name implies, it involves working deep into the tissue layers - muscle, fascia, etc., in your body. Lots of people get trigger points (knots) in their calf muscles and also hold a lot of tension there, and deep tissue work would help to release some of that. It can be uncomfortable to experience, but it's worth it because everything feels so much looser afterwards. What does a deep tissue massage do?
it goes deeper than a regular massage

I am a Massage Therapist and I give 12 hours of deep tissue a week- yet Im still gaining weight! Why?

This is something that boggles my mind- for 7 months now I have been giving 12 hours of deep tissue massage, and breaking a sweat mind you, and if anything ive gained weight (not all of it is muscle). It doesent make any sense. I used to lose weight if i went to the gym 3 times a week for 1 hour. Now Im doing physical exercise for 12 and not seeing one bit of difference. I eat a bit more on the days I work- but im not gorging myself. I am wondering how many calories you do burn from massage? I know several massage therapists who have to go to the gym aside from massaging for weightloss as well- why is it we work out bodys to the max for these massages and yet it doesent burn fat? that seems unfair...

Thank You,

A.I am a Massage Therapist and I give 12 hours of deep tissue a week- yet Im still gaining weight! Why?
Hi -- I am a Licensed Massage Therapist practicing for years and have gained weight too...

I tell ya -- for me, my weight has always been a struggle. I've gained, lost and gained and lost again. I eventually decided that I would like to figure out the true emotional component that drives me to gain weight and/or stay heavy. Massage has been a wonderful gift for bringing up my own issues.

I still struggle with putting up a guard. I don't know if it's self-sabotage with the work or just blocking my own heart but my weight struggle continues the more I massage. I can't speak for you -- perhaps you can ask yourself if this has always been a struggle.

I went to an AMTA convention a few years ago and met this very nice LMT with a weight issue. She said something to me that was quite interesting: that weight issues have to do with the second chakra and coming into one's own power. I believe this -- I believe that the more I have this delusion that I have to take responsibility for others and come into my own power...the more I tend to block it with my own insecurity and low belief of myself. I understand these are all delusions and that, ultimately, we're just giving up control to a higher power. Yet, I think there might be something with this that keeps the weight on.

Again...I can't speak for you -- I am working on me but I hope that I have written something to spark you. If you would like, please feel free to write to me privately at Michelenergy@yahoo.com.

Good luck!

you need to do cardio to burn the calories. I'm sure you have built some muscle doing massage, but you need to get moving to lose the fat.
I would suggest a cleansing diet. I did this and lost 12 pounds and 19 inches in 9 days. I continued and lost 29 pounds in a month. I like the program since it works by giving your body nutrition through protein shakes with digestive enzymes and vitamins and then cleansing out the toxins. We get toxins in our bodies from pesticides, preservatives, water, pollution, medications, food additives etc鈥? These toxins enter our bodies and get stored in our fat cells. To shrink the fat, we need to get rid of the toxins through cleansing. The program also has a natural diet pill to help your metabolism and curb cravings. It works and it works fast. My skin has improved from the cleansing. It is pricey but worth it! I think cleansing is really important to health and weight loss. Work on your diet. Think--do you eat a chocolate bar or protein bar when you are tired? What do you do when you are not massaging? AFter all you are only working 2-3 hours a day? Are you sitting around eating and drinking?

Do the massages and go to the gym and watch what you eat.
Work on your bad habit! Such as eating habit, sleeping habit etc. Let me see, several days ago, a friend told me such thing.Usually,i meet her in the site Pubspa.com.u can Communicate with spa enthusiasts around the world .

What kind of massage do you think feels best, Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue, or other?

Deep TissueWhat kind of massage do you think feels best, Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue, or other?
Hot pebble massage is the best. What kind of massage do you think feels best, Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue, or other?
I'm a pretty muscular man. Deep tissue with hard pressure is the only way outside of a rolling pin that my muscles feel relaxed.
Sweedish, a light one. But I do have to say the best massage I ever got was on a cruise, I had a head, neck, and sholder massage. It was the most relaxing thing ever. :) Now I want to go get another one!
a free one!

  • Is it possible for massage to cause diarrhea (ex: 2 hours of deep tissue/trigger point)?

Started about one hour after I got home from the 2 hour deep tissue / trigger point massage. Drinking lots of water. Is it possible for massage to cause diarrhea (ex: 2 hours of deep tissue/trigger point)?
I know with deep tissue/Swedish massages your body releases lactic acid into your system. Lactic acid is found in yogurt, sour cream, buttermilk, etc. If those products have upset your stomach before, then it's quite possible that the massage was the cause of your diarrhea.

A massage is like running. Make sure you don't eat 2 hours before and make sure you stay away from sugary foods. It will help ease your stomach a bit.Is it possible for massage to cause diarrhea (ex: 2 hours of deep tissue/trigger point)?
I don't know for sure but I think it could.

Deep tissue or hot stone massage?

which one should I get? Ive gotten a deep tissue before and I LOVED it! I tore my shoulder blade and it gets really sore sometimes, so I love massages.. but the hot stone looks SO relaxing and amazing.. what do you think?Deep tissue or hot stone massage?
Deep tissue massages and hot stone massages are both really relaxing. However, if you have a history of a torn muscle, I would recommend a deep tissue massage. Deep tissue massages take all the tension out of your body and allow you to get the amount of relaxation you need from a massage. Hot stone massages are good, but compared to a deep tissue massage, I don't really think there is a comparison.Deep tissue or hot stone massage?
i think a deep tissue would be better for your shoulder problem but hot stone massages are very relaxing
    deep tissue....no comparison.

hot stones is not much different than a heating pad, only they cool fast.
I'd choose deep tissue. I wasn't real impressed with the hot stones.

Where can I find a great DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE THERAPIST?

Seasons Greetings!!! I am trying to give both of my sons (25 and 30)

a really great gift for Christmas, so I thought of giving them a deep tissue back and/or body massage! I've heard that they are wonderful if done right and if office and massage room has good atmosphere!

Does anyone know of a really, really good deep tissue massage therapist close to the Crofton, MD. area?

(Close to the KMART on RT. 3 and RT. 424)

Does anyone know about how much they charge?

One that won't cost me my arm and my leg? lol :)

If you know of one, will you PLEASE give me their addresses and if possible, their phone numbers also? They will be the gifts that keeps on giving! Both of my sons have some back issues from the hard jobs they have and I think it having at least one session would do them a world of good! So if anyone knows of a good one, please respond asap since Christmas is getting closer by the day and time is running out!! Thanks so very muchWhere can I find a great DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE THERAPIST?
I do not know of the area but I would suggest that you go to a chiropractic office. The treatments will be cheaper and possibly more effective.

    Swedish or deep tissue massage?

I often tend to suffer from muscle aches in my upper body area, especially the lower back, shoulder blades and neck area. I also have along term pain in my lower back and right shoulder blades. Not sure how I sustained this, but probably a side effect of when I used to do some free weight training.

I am thinking of taking some massage sessions and have heard of Swedish massage and deep tissue massage. However, not sure which of the two would be most beneficial for my condition. Any advice or suggestions please? Thanks.

PS. I have already gone the orthodox medicine way without much success.Swedish or deep tissue massage?
I have back %26amp; shoulder issues too because I used to be a competitive bodybuilder and now I destroy my body doing massage for a living. I've tried years of deep tissue, sports, and Swedish massage from many different practitioners. It absolutely does not work for me. I always feel much worse for at least 3 days after. Sometimes the muscles spasm even more because of the extra stimulation. I NEVER get massage any more!

Yoga and progressive relaxation work wonders for me. I do one or the other 4 days a week. After a session I do 10 minutes of moist heat followed by 10 minutes of ice. Now I am 90% pain-free! It works very well, I am in control, and it's a LOT cheaper.Swedish or deep tissue massage?
Probably you'll end up getting a combination of both. I hardly ever give a massage that is totally Swedish technique, because almost everyone needs a little deep tissue work somewhere. This is something you'll discuss with the therapist before and during the massage; you don't have to know all about it because they will figure out what you need. If they tell you you have to choose before you can even schedule an appointment, go somewhere else.

Why do you consider massage to be ';unorthodox';? It is actually categorized as a complimentary therapy, meaning it gives the best results when combined with conventional medical treatment. It is not meant to be an alternative to medical care. If you have a condition that you are seeing a doctor about, you need to let the doctor know that you are considering massage as a treatment option and heed any advice given.

Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?

I've been ttc for almost 2 years, and the stress has be so tense, nothing I've done helps! Hot showers, hubby giving his 5min massage, yoga, nothing.

What is the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?(other than the $5)

(The reason I ask in this category is because I can get NO answers anywhere else...and I know there has to be someone out there that has experience getting massaged...if not...I don't know how everyone else coped with the physical pains of stress!!)Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?
both kinds of massage are meant to increase blood flow to your muscles, what this does is it takes away the lactic acid in your muscles. the lactic acid is what makes your muscles tense, or after a hard work out its what causes the soreness the next day. the difference between a swiss or relaxation massage and a deep tissue massage is the swiss is on the surface of your muscles, the part of them that is right under your skin and (everyone has it) fat layer. a deep tissue goes throughout your muscle and is best for relieving set in tension and any knots in the muscle. i used to be a massage therapist so i have taken class on the subject, and i hope that i answered your question!Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?
With either massage you choose remember to drink lots of water after, to flush out all the toxins that have been massaged out of your body. I don't know if this will relax you long enough to conceive, the mind is powerful. Have you and your husband both been checked for other health inhibitors to pregnancy? If so, and there is nothing physically wrong, then get the massages on a cruise or vacation, it will double your chance at success. Godspeed.
Deep tissue is when they really dig into your muscles to loosten them up. I believe a relaxation massage is much softer and involves your temples and other areas on your body that are pleasurable. For some people, deep tissue is extremely relaxing and pain relieving (gets out all the knots) but I much prefer the latter because I am quite sensitive and the deep tissue is just too much for me--it doesn't feel good..it hurts.

This is a great question because so many people are unaware of the fact that 'Deep Tissue' %26amp; 'Deep Pressure' are two different techniques of massage, as well as when one or the other should be utilize.

Most people just always ask for a deep tissue massage because its become a sort of 'Buzz Word' in society, when all they really need is deep pressure.

Deep pressure massages are what the majority of people utilize on a regular base to maintain a general well-being which is balancing to their health.

The techniques of deep tissue are reserved for the rehab of physical trauma's or old restricting %26amp; bound-up injuries. A deep tissue treatment at best(when done proper by most therapist) is a mildly painful process of stripping %26amp; lengthen the muscles and realigning the tendons %26amp; ligaments after breaking up any scar tissue. What does a deep tissue massage do?

Bali. Been to both and Bali wins.

Look up Day Spas and give them a call and ask them what kind they offer. BTW, you're nice, not many guys would think of that.

What type of massage is best..stone...deep tissue???

what do you think..if i was to go to a spa????What type of massage is best..stone...deep tissue???
    deep tissue.

Stone is nothing! Money trap! What type of massage is best..stone...deep tissue???
Eh - stone massage. its like a heavy heating pad. The deep tissue will get out all the kinks....make sure to drink water after wards, it releases a lot of toxins.
Just tell the therapist..you want to play it by ear..if they say no, say bye...Let the therapist start and advise them as they go..if they are too deep tell them, if they are too light...tell them. if they go too fast, tell them.. remember it is your massage and your money.... you be the boss.
Personally I love deep tissue and finds it benefits me the most. I recommend that you only go to a Registered Massage Therapist.

    Enjoy!
Unless you have a specific injury, I'd always go with Swedish.
Well, as a Licensed Massage therapist, i would recommend trying relaxation first, but you might feel that you wasted your money for nothing, so if you really need some work on your back, neck or anywhere else you should try deep tissue, and hot stones are AWESOME!! you just have to find someone who is skillful and comfortable using stones, cuz if therapist is not skillful it can be painful, uncomfortable or a waste of money, so good luck!!! and i hope you enjoy it!
It depends on your needs. Sometimes you just need a basic swedish for relaxation. Sometimes, after long travel, you need a deep tissue to pull out the kinks. And sometimes, if you have a strain or an injury, you might need a sports. If it's your first time, you can't go wrong with a swedish. Pay for the aromatherapy. It's worth it.

    Aromatherapy massage using essential oils.

This is either a back massage or an all body massage used to treat a variety of symptoms (that may or may not be muscle related), and like myself may also be given by a Spiritual Healer too, this combines the best of both worlds.
I prefer to have Japanese babes walk on my back with stiletto high heels. Can you geisha why?
I've heard that a deep tissue massage can be a little painful the first time, they are supposed to go VERY deep into the muscle. I would avoid that one.

If you tell the massause the reason for your visit - relaxation, back pain, etc - they should be able to recommend something.

The only massage I've had was simply referred to ';total relaxation massage'; -it was wonderful! Enjoy your massage today!
go to a rub and tug

they will be advertised in the clasifides nder adult massage
First timers may find deep tissue massage too intense. But it's my favorite and I love it.

Swedish massage uses soothing manipulation of the muscles to relieve tension.

Deep Tissue uses deep concentrated pressure to relieve pain and increase circulation.

Reflexology is the application of pressure to reflex points in the hands %26amp; feet to stimulate the body's natural healing pwoers.

Shiatsu combines stretching techniques with acupressure or trigger point manipulation to encourage relaxation.

    Good luck %26amp; enjoy :-)
if you just go with the classic full body that would be best for your first massage. I wouldn't suggest Deep tissure for your first time, your body might not be able to handle it. Good Luck, have fun and remember to relax and enjoy yourself.

Oh and drink plenty of water after words... :)
    oral massage duh
That depends on what benefits you are after. If you have muscular fatigue go for a remedial or deep tissue. If you are after just relaxation go for the swedish. Enjoy!

Hi! My hubby and I been ttc for more than 2 years. I just found out a couple of months ago that my both fallopian tubes are blocked. I just want to know is there anybody on this site did any kind of deep tissue abdominal massage and got pregnant. I need a help from anybody who have the same infertility issue like me and got pregnant.

I want to try some natural remedies before a surgery or IVF. If there is any kind of herbs, please let me know too. Please help!!!

Thanks Can deep tissue abdominal massage helps unblocked the fallopian tubes?
Hello!! I do believe you can!! I personally did this for several months and then decided to have surgery! But my tubes were soooooo damaged that they had to remove them!

Do you know where the blockages are? That would help me decide if you should go for it!!

There are several herbs that can help! Also the book realityshowjunkie is talking about is awesome! She has a whole chapter on blocked tubes that is great! She even shows you the massages you can do your self to unblock your tubes and also has a list of herbs you can take!

Depending on where you live you can find an awesome massage therapist! Here is the web site for Dr Lewis the author of the infertility cure! http://www.thefertilesoul.com

Here is the list she has on her web site for acupuncturists! Hopefully you live near one! I don鈥檛 and I had really hard time finding anyone good =((

Please feel free to email and I can help you with what ever you need! I have a lot of good info! I also have some of the book scanned into my computer is you would like to read some of it! But by far that book helped me the most!

    Good luck

Can deep tissue abdominal massage helps unblocked the fallopian tubes?
I have a contact who did some things to try and unblock her tubes. Hopefully she will chime in and tell you about her experience.

I did acupuncture to try and unblock my remaining tube (Lost the other because of an ectopic pregnancy). I went for about 5 months, without success, before I continued with IVF. I have heard of other women having success with acupuncture and unblocking tubes.

Check out the book The Infertility Cure. This book has some suggestions for unblocking tubes. The website thefertilesoul.com may list these suggestions somewhere on their site. I highly recommend the book!

    Best of luck!
I did some digging on this subject and this is what I came up with:

    http://www.clearpassage.com/infertility/鈥?/a>

Well I鈥檓 just going to tell you my story, I have been TTC for off and on 4 years then the last two I went to see a specialist , I has all the fertility work up. I was told by the doctor that I have one blocked tube, I kept reading about all these remedies, acupuncture, massage ,herbal teas you named it I tried it. I was about to buy this tampon for like $500.00 when I decided to see another specialist. I was so frustrated. So I did the whole fertility work up again (new Doc) when I had the 2nd Hsg done he told me that both my tubes were blocked I was devastated but he told me we can try to unblock them, So last month on the 14th I had the lap to unblocked them, I had my follow up yesterday and he told me that he was able to unblock both. He says that I do have some scarring, but he like for me to try for a few months on my own now. I鈥檓 going to relax and just have sex naturally. So it鈥檚 possible to unblock them. I think it depends on where the blockage is, because I keep reading all these stories about people who do get prego after drinking herbal tea鈥檚 ect.. Well keep me posted and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.

    Good luck

Deep tissue or hot stone massage?

I've never been to a spa before, but it's something I've always wanted to do. My boyfriend bought me a gift card for my birthday, so I want to have the best experience possible. Is there more to a hot stone massage than just placing stones on you? Which massage would be better for de-stressing? Also, if you have any tips like how much to tip, what to wear, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.Deep tissue or hot stone massage?
They give a massage before the hot stones and it would be the best for destressing. Since you have never been to a massage before, I would not recommend the deep tissue. It hurts sometimes and you will be sore later. It is for after you have relaxed some. Also, massage releases toxins locked in your muscles. Jumping into a deep tissue the first time could release a little too much at one time.

I would tip the same as you would for any other service..isin't it 15% or something?

I would wear something comfortable that you can get in and out of easily. You will be relaxed at the end and won't feel like dealing with a bunch of buttons and such. Don't bother with the makeup if you are getting a facial.

You will love it....have fun!Deep tissue or hot stone massage?
I was a massage therapist... HOT STONE.. get something relaxing not deep tissue, you could hurt the next day. A hot stone massage, we actually use the stones to massage you, as well as our hands... it will give you goosebumps if it's a good therapist! tip 10% or whatever you feel, that's the ';norm';. get undressed down to your underwear then get under the blanket and lie face down or face up covered up whichever way they prefer to start with you.
Go for the deep tissue massage. Especially for de-stressing. I'm so in need of one myself! Enjoy!!!!! I'm so jealous.
it depends if you like to be rubber rough or not, some people say deep tissue really hurts.

Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Combo Massage?

ok so im 15 and i have really bad back problems so i was lookin up some local spas. they have something called a swedish massage, deep tissue, and combo. what is it? wich is better? and how r they different.

10 point to whoever answers with a the better answer faster.Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Combo Massage?
I agree with April O. Some of your back issues may be due to stress, in which case a combination may be helpful. You need a trained therapist who can do specific work as well as a general relaxation Swedish massage.Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Combo Massage?
You'd benefit more getting a massage from a neuromuscular therapist or sports massage specialist than a spa massage. The link below is to find a nationally certified massage therapist. There are numerous things that can cause back pain (sleeping badly to tight quadriceps).

I just finished massage school and am about to take my massage board exams.
Swedish massage is basic spa massage - lots of effililuage, gentler sliding motions. Deep tissue is massage that gets, well, deep into your muscle tissue, which would be better for pain treatment. I'd suggest a clinical massage over a spa, though.

Bulge on tibial anterior muscle (next to shin).. after a deep tissue massage?

I just had a deep tissue massage today.

I had massage before, but only today I notice a slight bulge midway on my right shin..

It is my tibial anterior muscle bulging towards my shin bone (tibia).

about an inch in diameter. I noticed it later in the night.. 4-5 hours after the massage.

It is not painful, unless pressed.

Is this normal ? probably not wanted right..

but is there anything serious.. like hernia ?

should I ignore it and let it dissapear ?

    or

should I check with doctor ?

    pls help

thanksBulge on tibial anterior muscle (next to shin).. after a deep tissue massage?
Never heard of such a thing being caused by a massage. If it is in fact a hernia, it would have been more likely caused by overdoing a workout, or the result of a heavy, direct blow to the lower leg. Let it be for a day or two and if it doesn't seem to get any better, see a doctor.

Should I exercise a day after a deep tissue massage?

Yesterday I had my first deep tissue massage. I went in to get one because it was recommended by a friend who is a personal trainer. I was experiencing a lot of tightness in my shoulder which was contracting down into my pectorals which just plain ached like hell.

This was my first deep tissue massage, and as such, I was kind of shocked at how naturally tense I was. She did the full fledged experience, except she didn't do anything on my legs, as I requested for my first time.

Next day: I feel just fine, maybe a little soreness, however, when I touch my back to virtually anything, it feels as if the entire back is bruised up, without any visual indications of bruising. Movement does not bother me. I want to know whether or not I can continue going to the gym to exercise with such exercises as swimming, running, push ups, sit ups and pull ups without somehow creating a physical setback from what the masseur did.

    NOTES:

    - I am drinking lots of water, typically 6-8 16oz glasses a day.

    - I naturally eat a diet high in protein, around 150-200g of protein per day.

Thanks!Should I exercise a day after a deep tissue massage?
I am a fitness advocate also and used to work at a spa. I asked the very same question. The answer I received was that it really is up to you. If you do go back to working out right away you will probably stiffen up quicker but you will do no harm and the soreness is normal from a deep tissue massage.Should I exercise a day after a deep tissue massage?

a really great gift for Christmas, so I thought of giving them a deep tissue back and/or body massage!

Thanks so very much!Where can I find a great DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE THERAPIST?
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in your area.

Fortunately, I am a member of a professional organization that lists qualified and Licensed Massage Therapists anywhere in the USA and allows searches by City, State, Zip Code, and type of massage, so long as the massage therapists are members of the organization (and anyone can search).

Click on my first link - AMTAMassage.org. If you enter Crofton MD and click on Neuromuscular and Deep Tissue Massage you will come up with three therapists. From what I read, they can all help you.

I can't list their names due to publishing agreements, but I just did a search, so it shouldn't change too much in 5 days.

You can also search under Rolfing, Structural Integration, or Myofascial and should be able to find great massage therapists.

I generally recommend to go to the therapist's office, rather than a spa, sports club, etc. I have a lot more flexibility when I work from my own office and control my own space. However a qualified and licensed therapist is good wherever you go.

The second link allows searches of members of the other major Massage Organization.

Yes, these links will work in any city and state in the USA.

Rates for independent therapists tend to be between $55 and $85/hour in the USA. Some do offer deals for multiple massages paid for by the same person. It may be a small deal, but it could be a discount.

Good luck and Happy Holidays.Where can I find a great DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE THERAPIST?
i live in canada...but some advice is dont go to a spa. some spas offer massages, but they wont be deep tissue they are more for relaxing in spas, unless it is massage therapy in with esthetics.just try the phone book or google. good luck

Neck & Back Pain. Is a Deep Tissue Massage the answer?

I am seventeen years old and I am a senior in high school. I stress so much over things and I have job that has me sitting at a computer all day. My neck and back are in so much pain every day and I wish I just had no tension in my back. I went to the massage therapist about a month back and they told me that I have so many knots. They couldn't beleive a seventeen year old had so much knots. I had knots in my ankles, arms, upper neck and back. They want me to go in every two weeks but I don't have the time or money to be spending every month. I was wondering would it benefit me to get a 2 hour Deep Tissue Massage to at least release most of the tension? I was also wondering, should I see a chiropractor if my back is this bad?Neck %26amp; Back Pain. Is a Deep Tissue Massage the answer?
I quit wasting my money on short-term treatments that depend on other people to force out my symptoms. Massage makes me hurt worse, and my last adjustment gave me a migraine. Neck adjustments can result in strokes, permanent disability, and death.

Now I address the root cause of my physical tension. You already know what the real problem is...you stress yourself out! How can a 2 hour massage or a 2-minute adjustment possibly cure the stress you suffer during 5,000 hours in a month? It's impossible!

I have re-trained my mind and body so I'm more relaxed most of the time. 5 days a week I either do yoga or progressive relaxation. It focuses my mind, calms my body, and makes me more aware of where am holding tension. These are useful tools that help me TAKE CONTROL OF MY OWN STRESS so I feel 80% pain-free every day.

You can do both for free. Below is a link to a page that will guide you through a progressive relaxation session. I prefer the Combination Relaxation Exercise in the 4th paragraph down.Neck %26amp; Back Pain. Is a Deep Tissue Massage the answer?
Chiropractic is the best solution for neck and back pain. A chiropractor will be able to tell you why you have this problem and also fix it.

Knot in shoulder - deep tissue massage today - tense muscles, tired feet?

Well, yesterday I first got a knot in my shoulder (right where the shoulder meets the neck), and it got worse today so I decided to get a massage to make it feel better. Well, I haven't had a massage in a year and a half and the lady who worked on me convinced me to go deep tissue and use the hot stones. I loved the hot stones, but the deep tissue hurt at times (at times, I had to ask her to soften up). She also said I have tense muscles for my age (I am only 23), and tired feet? What exactly are tense muscles and tired feet? And in the area where I felt the knot (or maybe a pinched nerve, who knows), she felt nothing but explained how sometimes you can feel pain elsewhere then where you are truly hurt. but she also said I had plenty of knots on my right side, which is actually where the deep tissue hurt the most. So as of right now I am sort of sore, and who knows when I wake up in the morning. Any advice, and once again what is this with tense muscles and tired feet? ThanksKnot in shoulder - deep tissue massage today - tense muscles, tired feet?
You need to drink a bit of extra water (3 big glasses per day) and use cold/ice packs on the area (NOT heat!!!) from the freezer and cool it down once or twice.

A deep massage is a very good place to start. You can be sore after it just like any therapy that actually has a chance of helping you.

See a chiropractor if it doesn't go away (get one from an insurance list - not the biggest yellow pages ad). Best luck.

You should probably go back to her a couple times, once a week or so - she probably told you that.Knot in shoulder - deep tissue massage today - tense muscles, tired feet?
If you have a lot of tension then a massage may hurt a bit. If you feel tender afterwards that is normal. Usually that only takes 1-2days to fade. If it is painfull longer consult massuer or doctor. Taking a bath with epsom salts will help draw out lactic acid (cause of 'soreness' in muscles after massage or exercise). If you find you still feel tight, use hot wet towels (flannels are good) on area. You can heat wet towel in microwave for 30 secs. Putting a few drops of rosemary essential oil in bath or on wet towels can be good too.
I have the exact same problems - then I discovered a chinese doctor who uses accupuncture and massage - the results so far are wonderful. You may find that you have a problem with posture that causes the muscles to knot so I would suggest that you may benefit from either a yoga or pilates class to keep those muscles stretched.

Why might a deep-tissue massage help to relieve Mary's discomfort? Be specific!?

Mary is a 15 year old friend of yours. She calls you one morning, complaining of very sore muscles in her legs. You ask her if anything happened recently, and she tells you that the only thing she can think of is that she was running late for one of her classes yesterday afternoon, so she had to run as fast as she could for about 15 minutes to get there. While running, she felt exhausted, and very out of breath, but finally she made it, dropping into her seat just as the bell rang. But this morning, when she woke up, her legs were killing her! You smile and reassure Mary that everything is fine, and that the soreness will pass in a day or so.Why might a deep-tissue massage help to relieve Mary's discomfort? Be specific!?
the soreness is because of the accumulation of lactic acid and a deep massage will increase the circulation and wash up the lactic acid fasterWhy might a deep-tissue massage help to relieve Mary's discomfort? Be specific!?
tell mary she most likely has growing pains and sounds a bit out of shape. have her take a tylenol and learn to get up for school on time.

Chiropracter vs. Deep Tissue Massage (video)?

This is kinda long, sorry, but I feel the need to get all the details in.

I have a 6 year old TB mare (never raced) that I've had since the beginning of April. She came to me skinny, sore, and with feet about an inch long (barefoot and chipping). I had a prepurchase vet exam and she said with her feet so sore, it was hard to tell exactly where soreness was coming from, but said her hind end was definitely a little wacky. Her final statement in the bill was ';Sore front feet but sound in the front otherwise, lame in the hind left, right hind tracking off, and sore back';. Of course those are not the exact words, but in a nutshell. My vet said it was about a 75% chance that the soreness in the hind and back was due to lack of conditioning and that it would go away with work at flexion. I took a chance on the mare anyway and purchased her after the week trial. She came to me VERY green, so teaching her to bend was challenging enough, but now we've got it down and we've been lunging in sidereins as directed by my vet to help strengthen her back. A week after I purchased her, the previous owners told me about an accident she'd had a couple months before. She had tried to jump a wire fence on an incline, got her front end over but not her hind so she was straddling this fence, pushed off the ground with her front and went back over to the other side, but in the process she somehow got the wire caught inbetween her hoof and shoe in the left hind. She yanked continuously (I think this is where the injury is from) until she finally collapsed and landed on her left hip. Good thing they told me this right after my prepurchase, right?

The second week in July I had the vet return for a follow up. She said she's a completely different horse in the front (feet are very near close to perfect she said), and now that she's moving great in the front, the real problem in the hind is showing. It's a torn muscle in the stifle and my mare is ';protecting'; it by holding her back different and moving differently entirely in the hind, kind of like how a person's spine would be affected by one leg being shorter than the other. She did a flexion in my mare's left hind where the injury is, and my mare trotted off perfectly. Did the flexion in the right hind and then she dragged her left hind. The vet said she HAS improved and expects a full recovery within a year. Fine by me.

So here's my question: A chiropractor is coming out on Saturday to work on a post-trauma horse (the owner is an equine vet), and I thought my mare might benefit from having some work done. After making the appointment, I found out the chiro will not do massages, which I think would be great for her stifle area. I can not afford to do both (I'm moving her to another ranch on the first which is going to cost me a bundle!), so I'm reconsidering the chiro. Which do you think would benefit her the most? I'm only asking on here while I wait for my vet to return my email, which could take years if you know what I mean, and I only have about 24 hours to decide.

Here's a video of us the beginning of last month. The video was of the entire ride: warm up and cool down- I keep my rides short since we're in training. I ride like this about once a week and the rest of the time we hack bareback or just work on lunging. I was kicked about 3 weeks ago, so mostly we've just been hanging out and playing.

Watch how her left hind is a little stiff.Chiropracter vs. Deep Tissue Massage (video)?
I agree with GregB! Do the Chiropractor first. I have used them before %26amp; they are great! Mine saved on of my old mares from being put down. My vet sid to put her down bla bla bla, well I called my Chiro first. He put her in line %26amp; she lived for almost another 3yrs. She sounds to be out of place which makes he walk/trot/lope/stand off. She is compensating for her being off which is throwing her whole body off.Chiropracter vs. Deep Tissue Massage (video)?
    I agree with greg
it will take a long time to treat her and she could have continuing problems. you can if you want, back her by hand and take her on a walk over little hills to help the stifle and her back area, this will help strengthen it . BUT the choice is yours, the vet bills, the aftercare treament are all costly and will add up.

chrio will benifit her alot but it will help to also massage her from home.

here is this video. it's awesome! simple massage techniques that you CANT go wrong with!!!

check it out I love it! props to the girl who made it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QscI8J0oi鈥?/a>

and if you youtube horse strrectches or massages or chrio etc... alot of videos that you may be interested will pop up

    good luck

lounging work is good! i wish you the best.
Which comes first - the chicken or the egg?

Both are obviously very beneficial if done correctly and there are good an bad of both chiropractors and masseuses.

I think that if you get the structure right then the muscles will build up but, unless muscle memory is changed it can pull the structure out again - which is why most chiropractors need to readjust more than once.

A deep massage might alter the muscle memory and allow adjustments to occur on their own but it is doubtful so, I would go for the chiropractor.

When I do chiro work I use Applied Kinesiology through a second person, this allows for an exact diagnosis of where the horse is misaligned and also diagnoses which way it has twisted so allows for more accurate realignment and alteration of the muscle memory.

The fact that the horse is wrong behind leads me to believe that she will also be misaligned in the diagonal shoulder.

If you mail me %26lt;foxhunter1949@yahoo.com%26gt; I will send you a series of checks you can do which will tell you how misaligned your horse is.
Although both sound good, if you must choose, I would go with the chiropractic treatment. If her back is out and needs to be adjusted, then the muscles will get some relief just from not having to compensate for a wacky back.

The deep tissue massage may bring more pain relief in the short term, but if the back is still out, the muscles will eventually just go back to their pretreatment state.
Well a massage isn't going to help as much with a torn muscle. Its best to leave that be and let nature heal it. I definitely think you should get the chiropractor because that will help heal the horses back faster. While a massage will only temporarily relieve the pain. You look pretty good considering everything thats happening. Cute horsey!
    MASSAGE THERAPY

Reason I say this is because I have had several clients who's horses had issues where they benefitted 100% from massage therapy vs chiro.

A chiro works the bones, so to speak....a massage therapist does a deep tissue massage that gets rid of scar tissue, loosens up the connective tissues between the bone and the muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc....for maximum effect.

Contrary to popular belief....it's not ';just'; a massage. There's a lot more to it than that.

Also, the massage therapist that worked on my clients' horses also was given a horse that was started too young and too hard for dressage and it was broken down in the hind quarters. The horse couldn't raise its back feet. So, the owner gave the horse away to the massage therapist. Within a year's time, she had that horse limbered up and is now training him for eventing.

    Deep Tissue Massage Interactions?

I am trying to find a list of medications/drugs that should be avoided when receiving a massage (more specifically a deep tissue massage)

I am mostly concerned with the following

    -SSRI Anti-depressants such as Lexapro

-ADHD Stimulants such as Adderall or Vyvanse

-Time release preparations/medications(particularly of the previously mentioned medications)

I have tried searching extensively and have so far come up with no info on this stuff... tried to find medications you should avoid but could only find mentionings that you should inform your massage therapist of medications you are on

I want to find a listing of meds(site a source) or find someone that actually knows the answer to this question(medical professional)Deep Tissue Massage Interactions?
I'm not aware of any medications that would interact badly with a deep tissue massage, other than blood thinners, since people taking those tend to bruise very easily.Deep Tissue Massage Interactions?
I have never heard anything like that and I have been doing massage for 20 years. There actually is no scientific proof that massage does increase the circulation other than the fact that people's skin gets red. If increasing circulation had an effect then people wouldn't be able to exercise and be on the drugs.

The only thing I ever watch for are people on pain killers which would make them unable to feel the massage and what I was doing and people with blood clotting issues.

  • Acupuncture vs. deep tissue massage...?

which would have more effect if you were having back pain..or if there are anything else that anyone would suggest...Acupuncture vs. deep tissue massage...?
Both are great choices. Massage therapists deal with muscular issues that affect you and there is nothing better than hands-on healing. Some times massage has a Western mentality to it, such as if your back is hurting it is because of the muscles in your back, while they also learn a lot of other things such as stretching techniques and use of essential oils that will all contribute to your pain relief. Acupuncturists are very precise and spend a great deal of time learning about very specific points in your body that affect you. They are very Eastern in mentality, such as, you are waking up at 3AM because your meridian that is most active at that hour is not balanced. Acupuncture might not feel as good as massage but the effects are real and documented and this practice of medicine has been around for thousands of years and is proven, which is what the acupuncturists would argue. Massage therapists would argue that massage predates Christ and that there is no substitute for a hands-on approach, working your muscles out. I would suggest you try each of them out, just once, to see which one has a greater effect. But my best advice to you would be to go and see a chiropractor -- most of the time he/she will take your insurance and have either an acupuncturist or massage therapist working with him/her to give you the best experience in pain relief, with a doctor's advice always ready and the ability to get x rays or other tests that either a massage therapist or an acupuncturist would be unable to order.

I have seen chronic trigger points causing patients to experience undue pain and massage won't help it but stick a needle in there and it goes away immediately. Massage therapists some times refer to acupuncturists if they know they are unable to treat you, and likewise for the acupuncturists referring patients to get massage, because there are some conditions that only massage will cure and there are some conditions that only acupuncture will cure. It really depends on the source of your pain -- whether it is a chronic pain or caused by a recent accident, or whether it is because of your job, etc. You could try to find a person who is both an acupuncturist AND a massage therapist -- I know many, and I am both myself. Look around and you'll be surprised how many people are out there who are willing and experienced and want to help you with your pain relief.Acupuncture vs. deep tissue massage...?
Agree with other poster. Try both of them. Both are effective. I have used these along with chiropractic and soaking in epsom salt bath, or jacuzzi.

    Question about deep tissue massage...?

So I had a deep tissue massage the other day like I usually do each month and this time she worked alot on my lower back/butt. Usually she doesn't work that much on that spot and when she does it doesn't hurt that bad. This time though it hurt like heck! I was wondering what is connecting to the butt muscles that would make it hurt so much? Like why did it hurt so much in that area? Thanks! :))Question about deep tissue massage...?
Those muscles don't get that much of a workout usually.

Which is better for you..a Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage?

If you just want a relaxing gentle massage then go for the Swedish.

For a deeper massage to help relieve tense overworked muscles, the deep tissue is the one to go for.

Both depend on the skill of the therapist, try to choose one that has a good working experience of both types.

Best day spa for a deep tissue massage in So. Cal?

it seems you really like spa. i am too. that's why i bought the galvanic spa system of nu skin. have you used that? it's a very good device that i can use at home. brad pitt and nicole kidman have been using that for quite long now and it is even published in lots of magazines. it's a celphone size device used to rejuvenate the skin, erase wrinkles and eyebags in just 10 minutes, get rid of body cellulites and grow hair. though it maybe cost too much to you, you have that gadget with that benefits. by the way its a non-invasive device, no pain for you. if you want some more information and a video and before and after pictures, you can email me at aileengabriel27@yahoo.com. thanks. and god bless,

I'm sick after a deep tissue massage why?

i got a deep tissue massage yesterday, then as the therapist was massaging (brutalizing) my right shoulder i felt sick to my stomach. i went home and about 2 hours later, rushed to the bathroom to be majorly sick. i don't actually ';feel'; naseous or anything, i just feel my stomach is really upset - why's that??I'm sick after a deep tissue massage why?
Lots of toxins were released and just like the other user said drinking lots of water really helps. The sickness is really your body alarming you like a red flag that you've got toxins wanting to make their way out of your system. My guess is that there are probably more toxins so you may want to take a look at your diet and lifestyle and see how you could improve it and get rid of more of them. Always look at any symptom/sign as your body's way of trying to talk to you and if you listen and do your best to bring yourself back into balance you'll be A-OK!

ps:most toxins in my opinion lie in your gut. I did a great cleanse years ago from Dr Natura's website and felt great.I'm sick after a deep tissue massage why?
Did the massage therapist tell you to drink water after the massage?

You are supposed to drink plenty of water after the massage. The massage releases things that you need to clean out of your system. If you don't drink the water, it just stays there and it makes you feel sick.

Has anyone here had a deep tissue massage......is it worth the $$$$?

Definitely worth the money. You'll feel so good. Enjoy :-)Has anyone here had a deep tissue massage......is it worth the $$$$?
Whether or not the deep tissue massage is worth the money always depends on your expectations and whether or not that therapist meets the expectations. Deep Tissue massage offers a more effective form of treatment in most cases. Be aware that some places or massage therapists advertise as offering deep tissue, but clearly are unable to grasp the idea of deeper work. It is not always about pressure either. A well skilled therapist can get deep muscle releases in more tactical ways than with pressure alone. The session should not constantly keep you in a state of pain either. Mild to moderate discomfort is typical, but is often followed by some dramatic muscle releases. If the first deep tissue session doesn't work for you, look for another therapist. Some certifications to look for include myofascial release, sports massage, medical massage, trigger point therapy and neuromuscular therapy. I wish you well. I'm sure it will be worth your money.Has anyone here had a deep tissue massage......is it worth the $$$$?
    good luck nice
definitely worth the cash........I feel relaxed for weeks........

    Deep tissue massage question...?

I went for a deep tissue massage about 24 hrs ago on a shoulder that has a lot of knots/adhesions..I woke up this morning completely out of it, and have been exhausted and out of it all day...is this normal? Also, why did my therapist tell me to drink a ton of water over the next 24 hrs following my massage?Deep tissue massage question...?
    Agree with Minerva.

The soreness symptoms are NORMAL. Actually that's a good sign that the muscles are loosen up, are waking up. If you feel exhausted its because you have a lot of toxins on your body that are releasing, so yes... that's why you need to drink plenty of water to help you detoxify. You always need to drink plenty of water not only for your muscles. Don't use those machines for massage, I would recommend better to buy hot packs, that heat helps the muscles to get ';maleable'; and melt and then you can stretch. Don't use cold or ice on muscles unless you have an inflammation. Don't put heat on swellings.

You have to keep going on therapy!! knots and adhesions compress nerves and arteries, and those will create pain, tingling, cramps, numbness, etc. Don't worry, the more you get therapy, the less pain you will feel, the better you will feel.Deep tissue massage question...?
They always tell people to drink water to help flush their system and stay hydrated. If you have a lot of junk in your connective tissues it can liberate some of it and that can cause a minor detox episode which will make you tired and/or sore. It will pass.

Make sure you ignore the troll above me. Dr. P. seems to be angry he can't keep people from their alternative medicine.
I use one of those electric plug in things for my shoulder. It heats up and works great and DID NOT COST MUCH.

I understand the water thing. I drink it when I'm out of beer.

Thanks for asking. Glad I could help. Any time.

    That's what I'm here for.

If you feel weak, drink Coke or Pepsi. They have them with real sugar now. Sometimes I just need to grab a bacon cheeseburger.

    Deep Tissue Massage & Stretching?

Can this produce better flexibility? The first session caused pain in my hip and I haven't gone back. I have been inactive for awhile prior to the massage and stretchingDeep Tissue Massage %26amp; Stretching?
Did you tell your therapist in the pre-session interview that you'd been inactive?

Massage AND Stretching can assist in gaining flexibility, but as with exercise, you should start light; also, massage should be supplemented by judicious exercise, plenty of hydration, and COMMUNICATION with your therapist.Deep Tissue Massage %26amp; Stretching?
    yes

    also try yoga

    Whats a deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as ';adhesions.';)

Do you prefer soft, gentle massages or a deep tissue massage?

considering I've never had an enjoyable massage I'll go w/the soft, gentle one...Do you prefer soft, gentle massages or a deep tissue massage?

Depends on how i feel. Deep if i have been working alot and soft to relax.
    now you're talking.....

I love massages....and definitely could use a good one!

right now I think I'd like a soft, gentle one....

then build up to the deep tissue one....

man I have that please?! :)
They both have their place. So it depends on whether I just want a gentle one to relax the knots out after a stressful day at work, or if I've been working out or gardening and need a deep tissue to keep from getting really sore. Hum...looks like the short of it is soft gentle for mental stress...deep tissue for physical muscle stress.

Deep Tissue Massage ~ Help Break Down Fat ?

Does deep tissue massage help break down fat areas, not remove it from the body, but help to break up ';deposits';, Has this been scientifically proven with results.

What exactly does this do and is it worth it to try ?

Have you had experience with this?

Thank you so much!Deep Tissue Massage ~ Help Break Down Fat ?
I think it's just another marketing gimmick to get gullible people to think they can lose weight without sacrificing some calorie intake. Think about it - if they massage hard enough to ';break up deposits'; and ';break down fat areas';, don't you think they are doing some tissue damage to your body ??

Change your lifestyle and do this forever. Drink lots of water, walk, run, or swim an hour every day except 1 then do stretching and upper body toning. Eat fruits %26amp; vegetables.

It can help but I dont know of any studies which have given proof of it.

    It cant hurt to try and you'll probably enjoy it;
Hi no it doesn't break down fat at all. The only thing that breaks down fat is excercise. Massage does have some great benefits though, but helping you lose weight wouldn't be one of them, unless you were already training, like Sports massage to go with your exercise routine....
You had better hope not. Fat embolism would be fatal.

The body can use fat. Just because it's ';broken up'; wouldn't make it easier or harder to utilize. The fat has to be used by the body. Being broken up wouldn't get it out of your body.
    Doesn't break it up .

Doesn't help or cause you to loss weight.

Although it may feel good a free back rub will feel just as good.

It will cause weight loss in your wallet.
I don't know much about deep tissue massage breaking down body fat, but I can tell you it was invaluable in helping me treating sciatica, leg and back pain. The therapist was a very experienced sports massuse and was worth every penny in getting me out of pain

    Deep tissue massage help?

So I got a gift certificate for a deep tissue massage. What is a decent tip for this service(either percentage or just a set amount)?

Thanks for your help.Deep tissue massage help?
The general rule for tips is fifteen percent. However if you're going to a school those people are usually on an internship so they don't make any money except the tips. Our massage costs $20 most people tip $5 some people tip $10, and if they were really happy with it they tip $20. But really if a massage therapists is working for themselves instead of in a spa then I wouldn't care if I got tips or not. If it's from a spa 15% Good luck!Deep tissue massage help?
Tipping may or may not be required or needed depending on the rates for the service. If it is a salon where people are employees then tipping would be nice as they are usually way underpaid. If it is at a small clinic or one person massage business they should be charging enough that tipping isnt necessarily required

Tip only when you have received the service that you need. (i am not talking about happy endings here!)
I use to work at a day spa, for a deep tissue massage that takes a lot out of a therapist, I would get paid $23 out of the $85 - $100 that was paid to which I would have to pay 10% in taxes later on. The usual tip is $20 for the work. 10% is considered ';it was average,'; and 20% tells the MT that you truly valued the massage given. ;) so, if you are only giving 10% for a tip, you are only covering the taxes. I'm told by employees of ';chains'; such as Massage E___, they only get paid, $12 an hour. Cheers.
I always tip massage therapists and other spa service people (nails, hair etc) 15%.... unless it is a really good service, then I tip 20%.

Don't be cheap about it- especially since you're only paying the tip %26amp; got a free massage. If you go back later, and gave a decent tip, the therapist will remember %26amp; make sure to do a good job again.
10% or 10 dollars is generally what people tip. Of course, if you want to tip more, they wouldn't mind. lol.
10% or around $10 if the massage is $60-100.

When was the last time you had a deep tissue massage?

    No,

Neither is it fire and brimstone like a volcano. The hell that awaits the wicked is not only called hell but spiritual death; physical being the seperation of spirit from body, and spiritual being seperated from god for eternity. Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage?

Which one do I want? I know a deep tissue massage is a more ';firm'; massage, but how firm?

I have some minor muscle aches including my lower back. I'm sure a deep tissue massage would feel good there, but will it be sort of painful on my body parts that don't have muscle aches?

I'm getting ready to make an appointment at the spa and I don't know which one to get. Please help!Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage?
get a deep tissue. Don't be afraid to communicate with your massage therapist about the pressure. A deep tissue massage should still feel good but takes longer to work the problem muscles. Everyone's tolerance level is different so what may feel good to someone else, as far as pressure, might not feel ok for you. I am a massage therapist and I strongy encourage feedback about the pressure from the client.Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage?

  • What's a Swedish Massage? And a Deep Tissue Massage? Which is better?

Thanks!!What's a Swedish Massage? And a Deep Tissue Massage? Which is better?
Swedish Massage - This is likely the most common type of massage, sometimes referred to as 'traditional massage.' It was developed by a Swedish doctor, Dr. Per Henrik Ling, in the 1820s, and is known as the first modern method of massage. Techniques include long gliding strokes, kneading, friction, tapping and shaking motions that affect the nerves, muscles and glands. It's ideal for relaxation, increasing circulation and energizing you.

Deep Tissue Massage - Targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This is a deep massage meant to reach deep into your muscles and ';unstick'; the fibers they contain. This is done by deep muscle compression and putting friction along the grain of the muscle. It is especially good for muscle damage from an injury such as whiplash or back strain, and it helps release toxins and break patterns of tension.

Which is best? Depends on what you want in a massage. What's a Swedish Massage? And a Deep Tissue Massage? Which is better?
Shiatsu is using pressure points on your body to help release stagnat energy from differant parts of your body. The relief is subtle but good.
sweedish massage is more a relaxation style, where deep tissue is mor involved with the stuff close to the bone.
    sweedish.

    hands down

    no pun intended :D

What is the difference between a 'Deep tissue' and 'Sweadish' massage?

a swedish massage is generally a soft but firm massage that takes care of the muscles closer to the skin where as a deep tissue targets the muscles farther from the surface and is harder and can hurt till the muscle relax unless done by a trained professionalWhat is the difference between a 'Deep tissue' and 'Sweadish' massage?
deep tissue is only focus on your muscle...sweadish is just like rubbing your whole body.....its boring and doesnt get any thing out of it...just a waste of time...deep tissue or trigger point is way way better...ok.

Shiatsu massage or deep tissue massage: which one has more pressure?

my neck and back is so sore and feels so good when applied pressure on it: i need a massage asap! Before I leave though I wanted to ask which one has stronger pressure on my muscles: shiatsu or deep tissue?

    I seriously need someone to like step on my back it is so knotted;

I know you can ask them to do it firmer but I was curious which one is slower and strongerShiatsu massage or deep tissue massage: which one has more pressure?
Just because it feels good to have pressure applied to your back doesn't mean that is what is going to help you the most. That being said, shiatsu massage is about precise points being stimulated, not deep pressure. If you just want deep pressure then deep tissue or neuromuscular is what you are looking for.Shiatsu massage or deep tissue massage: which one has more pressure?
I've heard that sweedish body massage is quite good, and they use alot of pressure, ive never tried it myself. I've never tried shiatsu either, but will try it next week.

I had a scalp and neck massage today and that was really good.

I'm sure both are equally benificial, really it depends on the therapist, if they are good and experienced, they will be able to detect any tension in your body and will apply appropriate pressure in that area.

Also there are exercises you can do your self, and a good therapist will tell you about that too.

Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?

I've been ttc for almost 2 years, and the stress has be so tense, nothing I've done helps! Hot showers, hubby giving his 5min massage, yoga, nothing.

What is the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?(other than the $5)Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?
Deep tissue is the only way to get relief. A relaxation massage will give you temporary relief to a degree, but lasting deep relief, deep tissue is the only way.

By applying add'l pressure the muscles are treated to release toxins that are in the muscles. The toxins are actually causing most of the soreness. After being released, you need to drink plenty of water (I try to drink 48 oz of water after a massage. and the next day you may be a little sore from the treatment, but still less than the soreness you had before. After the first day (if you drank your water) you will continue to be relaxed and won't have the soreness in the muscles.

If you keep having massages regularly, you won't be sore after a massage, it will be easier on your therapist and you will be feeling great everyday.Whats the difference in a deep tissue and a relaxation massage?
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that targets the deeper lying muscles. They try to realign these muscles with the rest of the body, getting the tension and stress out.

It takes a professional to really get those muscles relaxed and realigned. Pay that extra $5 and I think you will be able to feel the difference.

I just had a deep tissue massage last night. The girl did a good job; really intuitive and gentle?

Not hard at all. I drank lots of water and was fine when I went to bed last night. This evening however, my shoulders and neck are killing me. Its like she released some poision (emotions?) in my tissue and it aches badly. I dont really know how to discribe the feeling, its just a none stop, dull aching. I want to throw up. any suggestions. should i go back so she can work it all out?I just had a deep tissue massage last night. The girl did a good job; really intuitive and gentle?
Just give it some time to pass and next time ask for a ';gentle'; massage. I have the same problem...used to tolerate deep massages but not anymore.I just had a deep tissue massage last night. The girl did a good job; really intuitive and gentle?
Aromatherapy is a great way for some people to alleviate pain from arthritis, muscles, deep tissue. Not medicine, and does for some folks what medicine can't. And if they're pure and therapeutic, taken as recommended, they can't hurt you and have no dangerous side effects. 888-550-8415.
Definately call her and get some feedback. Deep massage can release toxins and energy. Keep drinking lots of water. A very hot shower will help.
It's like when you work out, and you are sore the following days. Just relax and try not to blame Ms. Massage.
Drink A LOT of extra water and put ice on it if you have to. Go to a health food store and get some Arnica gel and put on it. It is a homeopathic remedy that is amazing for muscle paini and bruising. You will be okay in a day or two. Ask her not to go so deep next time.
You are gonna be sore for about three more days but its just that you were so relaxed and out of it you didn't notice the pain and pressure and now that you are awake and aware you feel everything that she did to you

Have you had a deep tissue massage? did you feel this way after-wards? I?

i felt great phsically but i was snappy and had an attitude for days. not like me at all. could there be a relation to the massage? just curious. thanksHave you had a deep tissue massage? did you feel this way after-wards? I?
I guess it can be related, but I have had many deep tissue massages and that has never affected me. but we are all different.

Like they said, drink plenty of water afterward to wash out the toxins from the body. What might have happened is the toxins settled back down on your neck or another sensitive area and the stiffness/soreness directly affected your mood.

Also if the pressure was too deep, a nerve could have been pinched.

Also some people don't care for the deepness but it sounds like this didn't bother you.

So next time drink plenty of water.Have you had a deep tissue massage? did you feel this way after-wards? I?
yes, that has happened to me.you should drink lots of water.all the massaging loosens toxins in your body.water will flush these out in a couple days.
It affects people differently. depending on the toxins they released into your blood flow can have some impact but not entirerly the cause. It is recomended to drink plenty of fluids afterward to help flush the toxins out. mainly water.

Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???

I have never had one before, so which is better?Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???
Definitely try to find a therapist that you trust . . . usally recommendations help to know that the person is a good therapist.

Find someone who can answer your questions and who is open to explaining each step of the massage. Swedish is great for relaxation and deep tissue is essentially swedish techniques with a more specific focus on individual muscles or problem areas. THe therapist is going to judge what muscles need extra attention by what you tell him/her. Be sure to keep conversation open . . . if the pressure is too much or too little, let the therapist know. Once you have your first massage, you'll know better what you like . . . and ask the massage therapist what his/her view is on the difference of the two. I personally do a combination of both with each client. I don't charge more for a ';deep tissue'; massage because I don't do a full 60 minutes of just deep tissue work. So all sessions involve both. . . ask lots of questions, a great therapist will be happy to answer all your questions to help make you more comfortable.Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???
There is no correct answer to your question unless you state what you are trying to accomplish with getting a massage in the first place.

Better answer: Choose the therapist, not the technique.

    http://www.a-body-for-living.com/client-鈥?/a>
Neither is better than they other, they just have different results. Swedish will increase general circulation, reduce blood pressure and cause relaxation. Deep tissue massage will promote blood flow to a specific muscle, break down scar tissue (align connective tissue fibers) and lengthen the muscle. For your first massage, unless you have a specific injury or other problem to be treated, you'll probably be happier with a Swedish massage.
    Hi Julie,

Since you've never had either one, you'd probably enjoy the Swedish more. It is a relaxing, invigorating massage. That sounds contradictory but when you experience it, you'll know what I mean.

The deep tissue massage is excellent for fixing problems that are locked into the tissue. Great results can be had with it.

But, you should treat yourself to the Swedish first before delving into the deep end...unless you have a specific problem you're trying to address, such as a medical massage issue.

    The best to you.

How much to you tip for a 50 min. 125 deep tissue massage?

Depending on the total, I would give the person at least 15 %, especially if they did a good job. If it's a high amount (you determine what's high), you be the judge and scrap the 15%. Services are good, but I wouldn't ';rob Peter to pay Paul'; over anything. How much to you tip for a 50 min. 125 deep tissue massage?

    Deep tissue massage information?

So I'm 16 years old and I play two sports. The workouts have caused my back, shoulders and neck to become knotted which causes me to have headaches. I need, in detail please, to know what a deep tissue would feel like, what the masseuse(sp?) will do to me, how I will feel afterwards, and how the massage will affect the knots. I am getting one of these massages tomorrow.Deep tissue massage information?
I'm not going to lie- a deep tissue massage can be painful. They really get into the muscles. Breath into it and try to relax, and if it gets too bad be sure to tell your massage therapist to go a little easier. They will work on one part of your body at a time- one leg than the other, one arm then the other, etc. Be sure to tell then what areas you have the most trouble with so they can spend more time on those. It won't all hurt- some parts will be very relaxing and a good massage therapist will alternate between the painful stuff and some more relaxing soothing stokes.

You will be sore for a day at least. That's normal. You have a bunch of lactic acid built up in your muscles and that being released makes the muscles feel very stiff. However there are things you can do to reduce discomfort and get the most out of your massage:

Take a warm bath when you get home. If you can, purchase some epsom salts from the drugstore (a big bag is about $3). These are magnesium salts and are very good for helping your body get rid of all that built up lactic acid and for relaxing your muscles. This is great to do whenever you feel stiff or sore from your sports, or even to prevent that.

Drink a lot of water. If you think you've drinken enough drink more. Your body needs to flush all that gunk out, and a deep tissue massage means even more than normal is coming out so give your body the fluid it needs to do that. You'll want to drink a ton of water starting as soon as the massage is over and for at least a couple days after. You'll notice you'll need to use the bathroom a lot, even for the amount of water you drank. That's normal and means your body is doing a good job at getting the bad stuff out.

Be sure to get plenty of healthy sources of protein so your body can rebuild your muscle properly.

Make sure to take extra care to eat plenty of fruits and veggies for several days following your massage to help your body heal.

One massage may or may not get all your knots out so your massage therapist may recommend a follow up treatment at some point. Ask your therapist if there are any stretches they recommend to help prevent the types of knots you are getting- if they have time they'd most likely be happy to show you a couple.

Enjoy your massage and how great you'll feel without all that pain!

Yes, the massages I give suck... :)
Never a professional one. If a massage is painful it can suck!
    yes they can;

i had a Thai massage earlier this month

    it was amazing!
i have never had a professional massage, but i got an hour free massage by the best masseuse in town for x-mas! I'm stoked
I only remember one person that gave a great massage. Now if I could only find where he went to.
Yes they can suck. For instance if you can't get the breathing right to relax your body and mind then they aren't as efficient. You must be able to completely relax. Also if the person giving the massage isn't hitting the areas you want well that completely ruins it. The worst massage I ever had was at a resort in PalmSprings!
i would pay $500 for one right now.......

What does a deep tissue massage do?

i got a deep tissue massage on my calf and was wondering what it was for and also what does it doWhat does a deep tissue massage do?

What does a deep tissue massage do?
deep tissue massage reaches into the muscles closer to the bone, hence the name. its usually just a personal preference, but it could also be used for persistent leg cramps or an injury to the muscle.

Why do I feel so awful after deep tissue massage? I have fibromyalgia.?

It didn't used to be this bad when I got myofascial release therapy and the like. Lately, when I get any type of massage, I feel a distinct lack of well-being and a longing for bedtime. Is it more toxins, getting older? Any thoughts? Why do I feel so awful after deep tissue massage? I have fibromyalgia.?
When you get a massage, the toxins (in the knots) come out and if you don't drink a lot of water to flush out your system, you can get feelings of sickness and tiredness.

Drink tons of water before and after your massage, especially the deep tissue kind. Why do I feel so awful after deep tissue massage? I have fibromyalgia.?
because deep tissue massage agitates the muscles. What you got in therapy was a soft tissue massage or what is known as a swedish massage, not a deep massage, which are two different things.

    Hope this helps you?
Don't get one done, use a warm bath or hot tub or warm pool set and relax. You are stiring up pain you can do without. Stop it.
With fybromyalgia you are in constant pain anyway. To massage these points just tend to stress them even more. I have lived with it for 6 years now. But the medication helps...Learn not to overstress the pain points..
IF A DOCTOR'S diagnosis says you have fibromyalgia, you might request an MRI to rule out a cervical myelopathy.

Symptomatically they're the same, but it took years before a rheumatologist MRI'd me and determined it was not fibromyalgia...
Deep Tissue Massage is not the correct type of massage to have for Fibromyalgia! You need to have a Swedish Massage and you can look this up on the Internet.

Does anyone else get cold hands and feet during a deep tissue massage?

    normal dont worry about it

    Experience with deep tissue massage?

is deep tissue massage different from sports massage? If so, which would be better for someone who is extremely active?Experience with deep tissue massage?
deep tissue can leave you sore for a few days and releases a lot of toxins into your system. It's good for relaxation and sore muscles. A sports massage will work your muscles and usually some stretching is involved. Your therapist will pay attention to a certain area if it is mroe sore than another.

Cartilage has no blood internal supply and therefore does not heal in the same manner as bones and soft tissue. The only way to mend cartilage is to pin, staple or cement it.

  • Does a deep tissue massage hurt?

Would it be considered relaxing?Does a deep tissue massage hurt?
It depends on several factors. If you are already experiencing pain, yes, the massage will hurt while the added pressure is applied, but should subside back to the original intensity within a few hours. Most of the time, people do not have any unpleasant sensations from a deep tissue massage, if it starts to hurt, then ask for the therapist to not use so much pressure or to move to another area. After working the same area for a while, it can become tender and uncomfortable. Each person has a unique pain threshold of thier own, and what is painful to some is not to others. I personally feel pain very easily, due to a nerve problem, but do injoy a strong massage to work out the kinks in my neck shoulders and low back. Hope this helped.Does a deep tissue massage hurt?
    It isn't supposed to hurt much. Pain is nature's way of saying ';STOP, FOOL!';
It can be but it won't hurt for tooo many DAYS. Think about it, DEEP TISSUE. Ouch !

What is a deep tissue massage compared to a shiatsu massage? whats better for a sore back?

Deep tissue massage addresses the deeper layers of muscles. Shiatsu works on the meridian points that the therapist determines need work. Both are effective for back pain and muscle pain in general. What is a deep tissue massage compared to a shiatsu massage? whats better for a sore back?
They will both hurt before it feels better. No major difference.

Should I get a swedish massage or deep tissue?

I'm 14, and I'm getting my first massage as a gift. I like pressure and I've noticed that swedish massages aren't like that. My cousin however says that deep tissues hurt really badly. Which one should I get?Should I get a swedish massage or deep tissue?
    Deep tissue.

Im a massage therapist, and if at any time it feels like they are going to deep to the point of pain, just tell them to lighten up and they will

(a deep pressure is beneficial, but if they go to deep and it hurts your natural response is to tighten the ares there working and that doesn't do you any good).

Enjoy it!Should I get a swedish massage or deep tissue?
deep tissue can kinda hurt while you are getting them BUT after you feel soooooo good. i would get one!!!!

Feeling crappy after deep tissue massage?

I recently got one, and now feel crappy. It feels like body aches right before you get a flu or something. I drank alot of water like I was suppose to...but maybe not enough?Feeling crappy after deep tissue massage?
This is common after receiving a deep tissue massage. Toxins are built up in our bodies and can be held in muscles.

Or you are getting a cold and didn't realize it- and the massage sped up the process.

When getting a massage, espically DT, the fluids and everything else in your body is pushed through your system and muscles. Therefore, when you are ';sick';, all that ';sickness'; is getting pushed through too. It would have happened anyway, it was just done at a faster rate.

Stay hydrated. Get a good nights sleep. And just let it's run it's course.

Next time before getting a DT Massage, don't get one at all if you feel the slightest bit sick.Feeling crappy after deep tissue massage?
That could be a good sign, that the massage released some of the toxins your body might be holding.
most people do feel crappy after-wards because the massage releases alot of toxins that have built up in the tissues and muscles over time. Drink more water and you will feel better than you ever have before - and if you get massaged more often then you will not feel this way and you will love getting massaged
You may have not been hydrated enough prior to the message, also, a b12 supplement can help with muscle aches.

Is it ok to have ultrasound and deep tissue massage in the same day?

Yes it is.Is it ok to have ultrasound and deep tissue massage in the same day?
A bit redundent if over the same area. Did you have to pay for both services? Of course, one could make an arguement that massage for muscles and fascia, US for ligaments.

Why would yo want to have them on the same day??
