Whether or not the deep tissue massage is worth the money always depends on your expectations and whether or not that therapist meets the expectations. Deep Tissue massage offers a more effective form of treatment in most cases. Be aware that some places or massage therapists advertise as offering deep tissue, but clearly are unable to grasp the idea of deeper work. It is not always about pressure either. A well skilled therapist can get deep muscle releases in more tactical ways than with pressure alone. The session should not constantly keep you in a state of pain either. Mild to moderate discomfort is typical, but is often followed by some dramatic muscle releases. If the first deep tissue session doesn't work for you, look for another therapist. Some certifications to look for include myofascial release, sports massage, medical massage, trigger point therapy and neuromuscular therapy. I wish you well.
