Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???

I have never had one before, so which is better?Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???
Definitely try to find a therapist that you trust . . . usally recommendations help to know that the person is a good therapist.

Find someone who can answer your questions and who is open to explaining each step of the massage. Swedish is great for relaxation and deep tissue is essentially swedish techniques with a more specific focus on individual muscles or problem areas. THe therapist is going to judge what muscles need extra attention by what you tell him/her. Be sure to keep conversation open . . . if the pressure is too much or too little, let the therapist know. Once you have your first massage, you'll know better what you like . . . and ask the massage therapist what his/her view is on the difference of the two. I personally do a combination of both with each client. I don't charge more for a ';deep tissue'; massage because I don't do a full 60 minutes of just deep tissue work. So all sessions involve both. . . ask lots of questions, a great therapist will be happy to answer all your questions to help make you more comfortable.Whats better swedish massage or deep tissue massage, WHY???
There is no correct answer to your question unless you state what you are trying to accomplish with getting a massage in the first place.

Better answer: Choose the therapist, not the technique.

Neither is better than they other, they just have different results. Swedish will increase general circulation, reduce blood pressure and cause relaxation. Deep tissue massage will promote blood flow to a specific muscle, break down scar tissue (align connective tissue fibers) and lengthen the muscle. For your first massage, unless you have a specific injury or other problem to be treated, you'll probably be happier with a Swedish massage.
Hi Julie,

Since you've never had either one, you'd probably enjoy the Swedish more. It is a relaxing, invigorating massage. That sounds contradictory but when you experience it, you'll know what I mean.

The deep tissue massage is excellent for fixing problems that are locked into the tissue. Great results can be had with it.

But, you should treat yourself to the Swedish first before delving into the deep end...unless you have a specific problem you're trying to address, such as a medical massage issue.

The best to you.
